Nintendo Pledges Monetary Support and Repair Services for Noto Peninsula Quake Victims

Nintendo has pledged to assist victims impacted by the recent Noto Peninsula earthquake, which rocked Japan on January 1st. As shared through their official corporate Twitter account, Nintendo intends to donate 50 million yen (approximately $341,000 or £270,000) towards relief efforts via the Japanese Red Cross Society.

The gaming giant extended its heartfelt sympathies to the quake-affected individuals while announcing the donation. Besides the financial aid, Nintendo also intends to provide complimentary repair services for its products among those residing in the disaster-designated areas till July 1st.

The company's support page details this initiative, emphasizing that their commitment to repair without charge will be in effect irrespective of the product's warranty status. It also indicated that certain products might be challenging to repair based on their condition upon arrival. And specific older models, including the base model Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL, along with several others in the DS family and GameCube, are beyond repair as per policy.

This act of generosity is not unique to Nintendo. In the immediate aftermath of the quake, both Square Enix and the Pokémon Company promised similar donations of 50 million yen to the Japanese Red Cross Society. The quake, which measured 7.6 on the MJMA scale, resulted in 221 reported fatalities and 22 missing people in the Ishikawa prefecture as per a recent update by the Japanese Red Cross Society.

Meanwhile, the popularity of Nintendo's most recent console, the Nintendo Switch, hasn't waned as it enters its seventh year. The company has an array of new Switch games slated for a 2024 release.
