Russo Brothers and Robert Downey Jr. Set to Return in New Avengers Movies, Confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con

San Diego Comic-Con has made this a very fun weekend with exciting news about The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2, Silo season 2, Mortal Kombat 1 DLC and so much more. That last part includes a bunch of Marvel stuff, including the confirmation of a very interesting rumour.

Marvel has officially confirmed that Anthony and Joe Russo will be at the helm of two new Avengers movies: Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Doomsday is slated for a May 2026 release, and Robert Downey Jr. is set to appear as Doctor Doom in the film, which is quite the surprise given his past statements about wanting to reprise his role as Iron Man.

Fans will be thrilled to know that Downey Jr. will get to reunite with some familiar faces. With Secret Wars planned to premiere in May 2027, assuming all goes according to schedule, it appears the new Avengers films will be shot consecutively. This isn't new territory for the Russo brothers, who previously delivered Avengers: Infinity War in 2018 and Avengers: Endgame in 2019. The big question is whether they can restore the Marvel Cinematic Universe to its former glory.

What are your thoughts on the return of the Russo brothers and Robert Downey Jr. to Marvel?
