Ubisoft Stays the Course: Focus on Open-World and Live-Service Games Amidst Industry Challenges

The gaming industry continues to evolve, yet some companies maintain a clear direction in their development strategies. Ubisoft, a prominent player in the market, is reaffirming its commitment to specific gameplay experiences. The management has explicitly stated that the focus remains on open-world and live-service models, emphasizing a steady pipeline of future releases.
During a recent Q&A session, the CEO of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot, reiterated the company’s dedication to its established approach. He mentioned that Ubisoft will sustain its concentration on two fundamental areas:
- Open-world action-adventure games
- Experiences designed for ongoing service
Guillemot noted that significant investments are being made to develop a robust lineup of products in these categories over the next few years. He highlighted an upcoming major release, with Assassin's Creed Shadows expected to launch shortly. Additionally, he shared exciting prospects for Rainbow Six, indicating plans that span all platforms, marking this as an important milestone.
Furthermore, he mentioned that pre-orders for Assassin's Creed Shadows are performing well, showing figures comparable to those of Assassin's Creed Odyssey. While the recently surrounding controversy might affect its reception, Guillemot remains firm on maintaining Ubisoft’s strategy. This commitment to a familiar model may not resonate with everyone, as some gamers are beginning to express fatigue with the company's approach.
