Dave Michelinie Revives Venom’s Lethal Protector Era to Battle the Purple Man in New Marvel Series
The individual who played a pivotal role in creating Venom is reviving the character's renowned Lethal Protector epoch for a new battle against one of Marvel's darkest antagonists. Eddie Brock transformed into the premiere Venom back in 1988. Fast forward to 2024, Dave Michelinie, Venom's co-originator with the iconic Todd McFarlane, revisits the saga from the '90s in Venom: Lethal Protector. This fresh limited series flashback sees Venom confronting Marvel's diabolically cunning villain, the Purple Man.
In collaboration with artist Gerardo Sandoval, Michelinie explores an undisclosed segment of Eddie Brock's lore in Venom: Separation Anxiety. This installment, inspired by the renowned '90s episode, unfolds during the zenith of Venom's Lethal Protector period.
An early look at the May issue of Venom: Separation Anxiety #1 reveals Venom in his iconic symbiotic aspect, rendered especially formidable through Sandoval's interpretation, highlighting the anti-hero's intimidating features.
Marvel's official description of Venom: Separation Anxiety states: "Famed Spider-Man creator and pivotal Venom figure, David Michelinie, returns spectacularly to craft a fresh, captivating, mind-engaging story in the initial saga of Eddie Brock. Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe recognize Purple Man as the formidable foe in Jessica Jones season 1, portrayed with chilling fervor by the beloved David Tennant. In the comic book realm, he was last seen in the Daredevil: Devil's Reign crossover, where Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin, seizes his mind-controlling abilities, concealing them within a cane.
Venom: Separation Anxiety #1 is scheduled to debut on May 15.
