Princess Zelda Takes the Spotlight in Next Zelda Game: Echoes of Wisdom Launches September 2024

A newly announced title in The Legend of Zelda series, Echoes of Wisdom, brings Princess Zelda to the forefront as the playable protagonist.

Revealed during the June 18 Nintendo Direct, this game shifts the focus to Princess Zelda, who embarks on a mission to rescue Link and the inhabitants of Hyrule from a mysterious void. Echoes of Wisdom adopts the charming art style seen in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening remake.

During her journey, Princess Zelda encounters a fairy named Tri, who gives her a device called the Trirod. With this tool, she can capture and recreate the properties of objects in her surroundings. The initial trailer depicted Zelda using the Trirod to recreate tables, beds, and elemental water blocks, allowing her to navigate through obstacles and reach higher areas.

Interestingly, the Trirod also enables Zelda to capture the essence of enemies, offering a unique combat mechanic since she isn't using a sword like Link. She can also throw captured objects like rocks at her foes, utilizing the environment as a strategic advantage, reminiscent of the highly interactable map in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

This marks the first time Zelda takes the lead role in a mainline game, although she's been a playable character in spinoffs such as Hyrule Warriors and its sequel. However, she has never had a game dedicated entirely to her until now (excluding the less-than-successful Philips CD-i games).

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is set to release on the Nintendo Switch on September 26, 2024. Additionally, a special edition Nintendo Switch Lite named the Hyrule Edition will be available, featuring an elegant light gold color scheme with black buttons and thumbsticks. The console also showcases the iconic Triforce symbols on both the front and back.
